District Updates 2023-24 School Year Calendar

The Board of Education approved an updated calendar for the 2023-24 school year.  The first day of school will still be on August  23rd.

This updated calendar reconfigures the previously scheduled student vacation days, made possible by a change in Iowa law that allows school districts to use five remote learning days instead of canceling school on snow days.

This updated calendar now incorporates those previous non-school days into the calendar, and still meets the requirement for 1,080 hours of instruction in the school year.

Other changes to the calendar include:

  • Extending the Winter break for students through January 2nd, with school resuming on January 3rd.

  • Reconfiguring previously-scheduled Spring Break days into a full week break for students, families and staff, with school resuming on Monday, April 1st.

  • Including a Remote Learning Day for students on April 22, which will include planned independent work by students instead of a live Google meet of all students with their teachers. We will proactively communicate plans for potential remote learning days due to weather, and for the scheduled April 22nd Remote Learning Day to ensure all students have engaging independent work to be completed remotely.

  • Making the last day of school next year a shorter day, following a Monday schedule.

This calendar also includes enough instructional hours built in to implement three late starts/early dismissals in case of potential inclement weather.
