Crescent Elementary to Close at End of 2022-23 School Year

The Board of Education approved the closing of Crescent Elementary School at the end of the 2022-23 school year, and designated boundary line changes for Crescent students to be served at Lewis & Clark and College View Elementary schools, beginning with the 2023-24 school year.

During a public hearing on March 28, 2023, Chief of Elementary Schools Mark Schuldt presented an overview of the proposal to close Crescent Elementary School. The school has experienced low and declining enrollment, currently serving 64 students in person, with an average class size of 11, compared to the   average of 23 students per classroom across all other elementary schools. The projected cost savings of closing the school is more than $900,000 annually. The proposal         included reassigning the Crescent attendance area students to Lewis & Clark and College View elementary schools, each with the capacity to serve the Crescent students and maintain average class sizes.

Parents of current K-4 students will be receiving personalized communication about their assigned school.
