AL Senior recognized as State Finalist for Wendy’s High School Heisman
Abraham Lincoln High School Senior Darby Thomas was announced as a state finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman on Thursday, November 1. Thomas is one of 20 students from across the state of Iowa to receive this recognition.
“Darby is an exceptional athlete,” said Sarah Steinmetz TAG strategist at Abraham Lincoln High School. “She is also an exceptional role model for young athletes wanting to do sports and excel in the classroom.”
Thomas is a standout athlete for the Lynx who tied the Iowa state all-class record in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 5 inches at the Class 4-A State Track and Field Championships in May of 2018. She also competes on the Abraham Lincoln soccer team, which earned a trip to the state tournament in 2018.
Results of Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalist round will be announced on November 7.
The Wendy’s High School Heisman program recognizes the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors who share Wendy’s values of giving back to their communities, treating people with respect, continuing education and excelling on the athletic field. It is a joint program between Wendy’s and the Heisman Trophy Trust, host and custodians of the Heisman Memorial Trophy®.
