The Council Bluffs Community School District Board of Education held a special meeting on June 5th to appoint Chace Ramey as the interim superintendent. Current Superintendent Vickie Murillo’s last contract day is June 30, 2026.
According to Board President Jared Tripp, board members unanimously approved the one-year contract with Dr. Ramey from among the 28 candidates who applied for the role. Dr. Ramey will begin his service in Council Bluffs in July.
“With Dr. Ramey’s distinguished credentials and experience, we are confident our school district will remain in exceptionally capable hands during this transition,” Tripp said. “I know he is committed to leading progress on our district’s goals, and will continue the momentum created under Dr. Murillo’s leadership in the areas of innovation and opportunity for our students.”
According to Tripp, the Board will launch a national search for the next superintendent of schools that will include comprehensive input from the community.
Dr. Ramey’s Bio:
Dr. Chace Ramey is an educational leader with a passion for helping students, educators, and communities thrive. With 15 years of leadership experience in public education, he has served in district leadership roles across Iowa, Virginia, and Missouri. Currently serving as Deputy Superintendent of the Iowa City Community School District, Dr. Ramey has led efforts in teaching and learning, strategic planning, human resources, school improvement, and community engagement. Chace has dedicated his career to creating opportunities for students to succeed while fostering positive, supportive environments where educators and staff can thrive.
Dr. Ramey is passionate about building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners. He believes that great schools are the foundation of a strong community and built through collaboration, trust, and a shared commitment to student success. He holds a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Leadership, a Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas. Chace and his wife, Adleigh, are proud parents of three daughters, ages 8, 6, and 4. As both an educator and parent, he embraces the importance of creating learning environments where every child can flourish and reach their full potential.
