Through collaboration with Dr. Laurie Kimbrel of Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates, we have completed an evaluation of our academic grading practices and policies. The evaluation highlighted the importance of ensuring that our grading practices remain accurate, consistent, and aligned with our district's commitment to high levels of learning and rigor for all students.
Key recommendations include engaging stakeholders—educators, students, and families—in defining the purpose and core values of grading, revisiting board policies as needed, and creating detailed implementation plans to ensure consistency and alignment with district goals. Transparent communication, professional development, and regular system reviews are essential components of this process. You can read the full report, including all recommendations, here. We will begin our next steps based on these recommendations during the second semester so that we are prepared to implement any new practices next school year. These action steps will include:
-
Establishment of Work Groups for Elementary and Secondary Levels
-
Development of a plan to reaffirm and re-conceptualize our grading practices
-
Finalization of the recommendations
-
Delivery of Professional Learning on grading practices in August of 2025
We are committed to updating our stakeholders throughout the process.
