November 2, 2021 - Franklin has a new mascot!
As Franklin Flyers, we have paid tribute to our namesake, Benjamin Franklin & his famous kite & key. Based on your input, we will now align w/ our Wilson & TJ Yellow Jackets, too. Drum roll, please

October 12, 2021 - Special Olympics Bowling
Franklin 4th grade student Mady participated in Special Olympics bowling today. Way to go Mady, we are so proud of you!
October 8, 2021 - New books!
Mrs Dighton’s preschooler are very excited to get their first set of new books to take home and read! Thank you Melinda Jensen and Jeff Fox from Berkshire Hathaway real estate here in Council Bluffs for supporting our preschoolers this school year with a new book each month this school year to add to their home library.
September 17, 2021 - TJ Homecoming Parade
Students, parents, and staff from Franklin participated in the TJ homecoming parade. Our float and our students were "Dancing Through the Decades!" Many other Franklin students were in the parade as well with their football or cheer team!
September 17, 2021 - TJ Pep Assembly Comes to Franklin
Students at Franklin got to enjoy a Pep Assembly for homecoming that included performances from TJ Cheer, TJ Dance, and TJ Band. We also got to hear from a few of the football players who invited us to their game Friday night. Some of our Junior Jackets cheerleaders even got to join in!
September 13-17, 2021 - TJ Homecoming Week
Students and staff around the building enjoyed participating in dress up days for TJ homecoming week. The days included USA Day, Dress Like a Teacher Day, Sports Day, Decade Day, and Spirit Day. More photos from our dress up days and TJ Homecoming week can be found on our home page.
March 4, 2021 - Drop Everything and Read
All week Franklin students and staff have been participating in Drop Everything and Read. This is when you drop whatever you're doing, and pick up a good book. In the photo below, Mrs. Wulff and her 3rd graders are enjoying their books!
March 3, 2021 - Guest Readers
Mrs. Dighton's PK class had parents of students in their class read virtually to them this week! Mrs. Fouts found a lot of other guest readers to read virtually to our other classrooms as well. Students have been enjoying hearing new stories all week, like The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors!
March 2, 2021 - Read Across America Week
Franklin students and staff are having so much fun celebrating Read Across America Week. On Tuesday students dressed in the colors of Cat in the Hat, Thing 1, or Thing 2. Mr. Hart's preschool students loved showing off their new hats!
November 20, 2020 - Flyer Cards
Each day at Franklin, staff are rewarding Franklin students with "Flyer Cards." Students can earn Flyer Cards by showing that they are safe, respectful, responsible, or a learner. Each Friday student names are drawn from the Flyer Cards that have been turned in. The winners then get to come choose a prize!
We also have a school wide goal that we have set. If our school meets that goal, students will get a free time within their classroom!
August 24, 2020 - Council Bluffs Schools Heads Back to School
Council Bluffs Schools provides options for families when coming back to school. Some of our students will be attending through Virtual Academy, where they are participating in all virtual learning. Other students are participating in our Hybrid Model where they attend 50% of the days in person, and the other 50% of the days they are participating in remote learning.
March 10, 2020 - Kindergarten Attends Omaha Symphony
Franklin Kindergarten students attended a performance at Iowa Western. During this performance students had to help the Omaha Symphony get their music back! As they learned about each different family of instruments, students were asked to help the musicians figure out what was wrong.
March 3, 2020 - Franklin Begins Kids for Heart Challenge
December 20, 2019 - Student Council Raises Funds Through Candy Cane Sales
Student council raises funds through the sales of candy canes. The funds raised through theses sales will be used to pay for the members of student council to complete a service project in the second semester of school.
December 16-20, 2019 - Students and Staff Participate in Holiday Themed Dress Up Days
Students and staff participated in dress up days the week before break. We celebrated an awesome first half of the school year by wearing red/green, pajamas, festive sweaters, holiday hats/headbands, and dressing up as holiday characters.
November 20, 2019 - Student Council Hosts 90's Day

November 13, 2019 - Franklin Elementary Celebrates Kindness Day
Staff members at Franklin Elementary wore cardigans in honor of Mr. Rogers to celebrate World Kindness Day. Throughout the school day we saw many students and staff doing kind things for someone else. #keystokindness
November 7, 2019 - Student Council Holds First Meeting
The first student council meeting for the 2019-2020 school year was held. The members of student council discussed many great ideas for our school that we can use moving forward, decided on our theme day for the month of November, and brainstormed ideas for our reward day for meeting our Flyer Card goal! November 5, 2019 - School Board Member, Kyle McGlade, visits with 3rd graders.
Kyle McGlade visited our 3rd graders on Election Day to answer questions about his campaign and election to the school board. This helped us to answer the essential question in Wonders this week, "How do people make government work?"
October 9, 2019 - Professor Bell, an engineering professor at the University of Iowa, virtually visits with 3rd graders.
Professor Bell, an engineering professor at the University of Iowa, visited with our 3rd grade students virtually when they were learning about inventing and problem solving. Our 3rd graders were trying to answer their essential question for the week in Wonders, "How can problem solving lead to new ideas?" Students and staff dressed up for different days throughout the week to join in the fun for Thomas Jefferson High School's Homecoming Week. Thanks to all of those who participated. It was a great week!

September 27, 2019 - Booster Club hosts Franklin Carnival.
Students and familiies participated in the Franklin Carnival on Friday. They enjoyed inflatables, food, games, face painting, and more. Thanks Booster Club!

Thank you to all of the parents who attended and participated in take your parent to PE day. Students were so excited to share a part of their school day with their parents!
September 25, 2019 - Foreign exchange students visit Franklin 3rd graders to discuss teach countries and traditions.
Third grade students from Mrs. Wulff, Ms. Beurskens, and Mrs. Schoenings' classes were able to talk to and ask questions of three foreign exchange students. All three of the foreign exchange students are currently attending Thomas Jefferson High School. They came to share information about their countries, and talk about traditions they have. This related to the essential question for this week in their Wonders literacy instruction.
September 25, 2019 - Students enjoy first day of banking.
Today was the first day of student banking for the 2019-2020 school year at Franklin Elementary. Banking will take place every Wednesday of the school year. If your child hasn't been banking, there is still time to start. We look forward to seeing a lot more students saving next week!

September 12, 2019 - Franklin receives award for the Drive for Healthy Families.
We found out that Franklin students and families won the award for bringing in the heaviest weight of all of the elementary schools that participated in this fundraiser last spring. Way to go Flyers!
September 5, 2019 - Third grade classroom has a guest reader from Texas.
