    The Boys Tennis team is looking for more players this year, especially Freshmen and Sophomores. Come see Mr. Wilder in Room A234 if you are interested. This is a Spring sport and it does not interfere with the Basketball or Baseball season, all are welcome!

    It is almost time for the Winter Snowball Dance which will be held in the Commons on February 15 from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will be sold from 2/9-2/15. No tickets will be sold at the door, so please plan ahead. If you are eligible to attend the dance according to our dance guidelines, you will receive notice of that at the end of this week. If you are bringing a student that is not an ALHS student, you must get a form from the main office that needs to be signed by that person's school. Don't delay, you can't buy tickets without having that form done. ALL students will need an I.D. the night of the dance. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Nickolisen in Room A128

Abraham Lincoln High School Fine Arts is sponsoring “The Follies" Talent Show. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, February 11th AND Wednesday, February 12th at 3:20 pm in the auditorium. We are looking for a wide variety of different performances. Singers, dancers, actors, musicians, jugglers, magic, comedy...impress us!     Congratulations to the ALHS Large Group Speech Group in their success at the IHSSA State Speech Contest in Waukee on Saturday. The team returned 4 Division 1 Ratings in Group Improv, Radio Broadcast, and Reader's Theater. 

     

    Anyone who is interested in participating in Individual Speech please see Mr. Waller or Mrs. Abbotts by the end of the day tomorrow, Tuesday, February 11th. All contest entries MUST be submitted by end of the day Tuesday. In order to ensure that you are registered, you must talk to either coach. Also, there will be an optional Individual Speech Workshop on Saturday, February 15th from 9:00 am-1:00 pm in Mr. Waller's room. Students can come and write, work, and perform pieces.

    This past Saturday, AL Jazz I earned their 21st Consecutive Division 1 Rating at the State Jazz Band Festival. District competition and qualifications for Iowa Jazz Championships will be held on February 17th at Glenwood High School.

The REAL Time class that collects the most rolls of toilet paper will win a pizza party.  Student Council is organizing a coin drive Monday through Friday next week. Please bring any change that you have to your REAL time to raise money for Children's Hospital and Medical Center. The REAL time that raises the most money will win a prize. Let's help make a difference!

    Anyone interested in participating in Individual Speech there will be a meeting on Thursday, January 30th at 7:45am and 3:15pm in Mr. Waller's Room. If you can't make the short meeting, please see Mr. Waller or Mrs. Abbotts to sign up for categories and select pieces. 

     

    The Great Kindness challenge is in full swing. Students and staff are signing the kindness pledge and winning prizes. For Thursday the theme is "Dream big while you’re asleep, and even bigger when you’re awake"-wear your pajamas tomorrow. Remember kindness is something that you can do everyday and it doesn't take much time.

    If you are quick witted, spontaneous, funny and like to perform (or want to be), Improv Club begins THIS Friday, January 31st. We will meet in the auditorium at 3:15. You do not need to have prior experience to join, and there are no auditions this year. EVERYONE is welcome! If you have any questions, please see Mr. Mandelko, Callee Adkins or Krystal Sheehan.  

     

    The Great Kindness Challenge theme for Wednesday is "There’s power in kindness"-It's superhero day so dress-up as your favorite superhero. Thanks to everyone who has participated in the Great Kindness Challenge so far. Let's see if we an get everyone in the school to sign the kindness pledge, staff can sign-up too!

     

    Starting next week, Key Club will be hosting the "Spare a Square Drive" for all REAL Time classes. The group will be collecting donations of toilet paper to support New Visions Homeless Services. The REAL Time class that collects the most rolls of toilet paper will win a pizza party.

    Congratulations to Jacqueline Bunten and Hannah Davis on a very successful Girls State Tournament. Hannah earned a 7th place medal going 5-2 for the weekend! The varsity won three duals at Colfax this weekend. Good luck today as the wrestlers head to Harlan!
