    • The newest edition of the Crimson and Blue yearbook will be distributed during lunch on Friday, May 17! You may still preorder a copy at jostens.com for $60 through Wednesday. Any leftover copies will be available for $75 starting on Friday. The yearbook staff is excited for you to see the book!
    • Next week Intramural Tennis is back!
    • Grab a racket and get a friend, a teacher or an administrator and come play some doubles matches. Co-ed teams are allowed.
    • Any students can partner together as long as both are not varsity players.
    • We will be matching up teams for play on Tues, Wed or Thurs. next week. (21st-23rd)
    • The plan is to run matches from 3:30-4:30 each of those 3 days. Win or lose, you can come to all three days or show up just once. Challenge your friends! Battle for bragging rights! Have a little fun at the end of the school year.

Come enjoy some free pizza and learn about the new game and how to get involved. If you are interested but cannot attend, please see Mr. Higgins or Mr. Heckman.

    • It is the first Monday of May, which means it is time to announce the last student-selected teacher of the month for this school year! This teacher was selected because she works hard to make sure all students understand the things they're learning in class. If students don't understand, she doesn't move on without them. Instead, she works with them individually to try to help them get it. Students greatly appreciate her efforts in going above and beyond to meet all of their different needs. Congratulations to the May student-selected Teacher of the Month .......... Mrs. Abbotts!

Yesterday, Darby Thomas was named the winner of the Gerry Cooley Award, which goes to the most outstanding performer in the high school girls division of the Drake Relays. CONGRATULATIONS!!

    • Congratulations to Xavier Whitney for being awarded the Spirit of the Slam Award at this year's Louder Than a Bomb Slam Poetry Team Finals. Out of 36 schools, he was voted the poet who showed the most spirit.
    • A big congratulations to the ALHS after school battle of the books group. The team of Bethany Foley, Madeline Streubing, Madyson Dunlop and Breanne West competed in the finals of the Battle of the books in Marshalltown on Wednesday. They finished 9th of the 16 teams invited to the finals. Super proud and thanks to the 21st century grant and Julia for providing all the funding for this to happen.

    • Today is the first Monday of April, so it's time to announce the newest Teacher of the Month. Students say this teacher is really fun and interactive with her students. She communicates with her students and takes their opinions into account when planning lessons. She works hard to make sure every student understands what they are learning.     • Congratulations to the following Deca Members for their great results at the State Competition: Ethan Brewer and Caleb Fitch 2nd place in Marketing Management Team event, Ethan Brewer 2nd place in Franchise Business Plan, Caleb Fitch 4th place in Independent Business Plan, Kiley Walden, Maddie Burns, and Abbie Olson 2nd place in Start-up business plan; Kiley Walden 1st place in Sports & Entertainment Marketing and Tom Wiegmann 1st place in Innovation plan written event and Honorable Mention in Principles of Business event.

    • This is a reminder to all of this year's Follies acts that there is a practice rehearsal after school this Friday, March 8th. If you signed up to be there, please be in the auditorium at 3:15 ready to perform your act with all music, instruments needed, etc. Please see Mr. Mandelko if you have any questions.
    • Remember to turn in your AP permission slip and money to A124 to get registered for the AP tests. This is due March 19th! So don't forget!
    • Beginning Tuesday, March 12 there will be a new policy for riding the Late Bus. You MUST have a pass to get onto the bus. You can get a pass for the following reasons: attending a club or staying after with a teacher. Passes will be handed out by the Club Sponsor or the teacher. Do not ask the main office or Student Services for a pass, we will not give you one. IF you do not have a pass you will not be able to ride the bus at all.

    • COngratulations to ALHS Large group speech participants. 5 groups represented AL at the state competition last Saturday and 4 of the 5 received division 1 ratings. A special congratulations goes to Ethan Jensen, Hannah Gibson and Molly Higgins who advanced to the All-state festival in Ames on the 16th in the area of group improvisation. They are one of 24 groups that will be performing in this event for the whole state. Well done all speech students.

Jude Ryan dominated at 126 notching his 32nd win of the season and his 6th time in the finals with three championships. Ben Price had a tough finals match but came out on top for his second title of the season! Cam Erickson Third Place. Sean Lorenzen wrestled his way to third place with his 5th top three finish on the season. Seth Frush and Gabriel Daniels both medaled in 4th place.Just out of the medals 5th place Austin Mattice and 7th place Kent Hyde. Team 3rd Place on the day! Up next Districts Saturday at Glenwood. Shout out to Miss Kennedy for stopping in and cheering on the Lynx Wrestlers. Thanks to Ashton Lander who wrestled an athlete with a disability. After an exciting 18-15 match the entire crowd cheered for the outstanding sportsmanship and respect Ashton showed the athlete. I am proud to be a Lynx from Coach Daniels.

    • AFJROTC Cadets received an Exceeds Standards rating on their higher head quarters inspection on Friday. That is the highest rating possible. This inspection is performed by the regional director from Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery Alabama. He flies here once every three years to inspect the cadets and their program from top to bottom. They excelled and reflect great credit on themselves and Abraham Lincoln High School. Come and see ALHS Fine Arts presentation of Don Mikado, playing this Friday and Saturday in the ALSH auditorium. Show times are Friday night at 7 pm, Saturday afternoon at 3 pm, and Saturday night at 7 pm. Tickets are available at the door and are $5 for students, and $10 for Adults.  
    • NHS will be bellringing during lunch and at basketball games the next two weeks to raise money for Adopt-a-Family.Students and Staff --next week will be Holiday dress up week! Spread some cheer and dress to the day's theme. Monday: Holiday PJ Day; Tuesday: Holiday Sock Day--Bring $1 to wear a Holiday Hat for the day--all money goes to AL adopt a family. Wednesday: Twin Day; Thursday: Holiday Character day; Friday: Ugly Sweater Day!

    • Bring new hats and gloves, wrapping paper, and tape to you first hour next week to help Mohm's Place!
    • AFJROTC drilled their way to victory last Saturday at Lees Summit. With 19 schools competing in six categories, ALHS took home second place trophies in: Color Guard, New Cadet and Unarmed Exhibition. They received 3rd place in Unarmed Regulation. To top it off, Cadet Koenig took first place in Individual Drill Down. Congratulations on a great start to your drill season!

    • Boys Swimming Results from this weekend's Benson Invite. Freshman Tayden Blair won both the 200 Free and 500 free. The relay teams of Hunter Gerriets, Jake Braddy and Tayden Blair finished 2nd in the 200 Medley Relay and 3rd in the 400 Free Relay.  
    • Today is the first Monday of December, so it is time to announce the student-selected December Teacher of the Month. This teacher was chosen because he is a remarkable teacher; he is always there for his students for advice with life and/or help with academic courses. He is constantly working to engage his students in class and make the work fun; he is also really funny. Congratulations to ................. Mr. Yauney, the December Teacher of the Month!
