Summer Learning Programs Available

The Council Bluffs Community School District, the Council Bluffs Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Council Bluffs are pleased to have joined together to bring you the publication, at the bottom of the page, of Summer Learning Programs in the area for 2014. Our hope is that parents will use this as a resource to access programs for their children. This guide lists 34 of the area programs, sponsored by the following organizations:

Bluffs Arts Council
Kids & Company
Boys & GirlsClub of Council Bluffs
Council Bluffs Parks & Recreation
Council Bluffs Public Library
Council Bluffs YMCA
Epworth United Methodist Church
Iowa Western Community College
Lauritzen Gardens
Joslyn Art Museum
Oakland United Methodist Church
Pottawattamie County Conservation
Sanders ATA Martial Arts
Studio 88 Notes
University of Nebraska at Omaha
West Pottawattamie County Iowa State University Extension
and Outreach

Please note there are many other valuable programs offered to children each summer. The programs listed in the following publication are the programs shared in response to an outreach effort. Our hope is to make this publication annually available for families and to include many additional opportunities.

According to the National Summer Learning Association publication, “Doesn’t Every Child Deserve a Memorable Summer?,” numerous studies show that summer learning opportunities improve academic outcomes for youth. Early and sustained summer learning opportunities lead to higher graduation rates and better preparation for college. Summer programs have also been shown to positively affect children’s
self-esteem, confidence, and motivation. High-quality summer programs keep students engaged in learning, teach them new skills, and encourage them to develop previously unseen talents. They allow children to form relationships with caring adults, help them stay fit and active, and foster creativity and innovation.

Here’s to a fun and enriching summer!
