Teachers Receive NCTM Grant

Rue Elementary school first grade math model teacher Mrs. Kylene Moore and Dr. Krista Johnson, elementary music teacher, just received word that the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) $3,000 grant application they co-wrote has been approved! The grant will provide music and math integration by bringing two mathematicians who specialize in movement to Rue to work with students, provide an after school workshop for teachers and present a family program in the evening. These activities will take place during the 2014-15 school year. Congratulations to Mrs. Moore, Dr. Johnson and the students at Rue!

Nominate an Educator for the Nelson Excellence in Teaching Award

Nelson Award LogoThe H. H. “Red” and Ruth H. Nelson Family Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes those individuals who go above and beyond to demonstrate leadership and vision in our schools.

Nominations for these awards will be accepted through February 21, 2014. Making a nomination is a fantastic way to give a teacher the recognition he/she deserves. Five teachers will each receive a $5,000 check, a specially designed trophy and public recognition. You may nominate your favorite teacher online only by Clicking Here.

Nominees must have a minimum of two years experience as a certified teacher or counselor in the Council Bluffs Community School District (K-12). Nominations will be accepted from students (current and former), parents, fellow teachers, school administrators and the general public. Individuals cannot nominate themselves.

The H. H. “Red” and Ruth H. Nelson Family Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award Program is administered by The Omaha Community Foundation. Neither the Nelson Family nor administrators from either of the eligible school districts are involved in the process. Judges are independently selected by The Omaha Community Foundation and neither the Nelson Family nor school district administrators are aware of their identity. Recipients of the Nelson’s Excellence in Teaching Award Program are at the sole discretion of the judges.

Perfectly Punctual Attendance Luncheon

Congratulations to the 29 students who had perfect attendance the first semester. They were treated to a special luncheon at school. A special thank you to Hy-Vee on West Broadway for donating the beautiful cookies, Avery Rentals for the linens and china, and to the PTO for helping to serve the luncheon.

Perfect Attendance Luncheon

Congratulations to 29 students who had perfect attendance the first semester. They will receive a special lunch celebration on Friday. Invitations and notes will be going home today. Please have your child return the note with their lunch choice. Rue was in second place in the district for the month of December with an average daily attendance of 96.55%. Crescent elementary won with 96.89%.
