CB Fire Department visits Hoover

DSC01993

The Council Bluffs Fire Department  recently held Fire Safety Assemblies for students K-5. Students learned about what to do in case of a fire and what a fireman looks like when fighting a fire. Grade 2 students also went through the Safety House they had to “escape” from by crawling to the door, touching it with the back of their hand where they found it to be warm, so they went to the window and crawled out. Grade 3 students got to learn about how the Firemen use the fire truck to fight fires. Each student received a letter encouraging families to draw out their escape plan and return it for a cool wristband.  Mrs. Kolln’s Grade 4 class returned the most plans!

Hoover Robotics Club Prepares for Competition

Hoover’s Robotics Club is up and running!  There are approximately 28 Grade 5 students who chose to participate in the club and they meet every Monday and Friday morning to work on the First LEGO League 2015 Trash Trek Challenge.   Students also come in at recess to build the game board missions.  The Trash Trek Challenge competition is scheduled for Saturday, December 12.   This morning members of the club worked on an activity to practice teamwork skills by seeing how they could work together to maximize the number of students fitting inside a square.

Thank you to their teacher sponsor, Mrs. Leffler and parent volunteer, Mr. Shawn Cannon for all their help and guidance!
