BOGO Book Fair Huge Success

Last week students, parents and staff got to enjoy a two-for-one Book Fair planned and organized by Bev Dickinson and Kelly Jones.  Bev and Kelly had done this before when they had children at Hoover, but we asked them to “come out of retirement” to put on another Book Fair and thankfully they agreed!  The BOGO Book Fair had a fun 60’s-70’s theme and they dressed the part and had decorations to match!   A HUGE Hoover hug to Bev and Kelly for the numerous hours they invested planning, scheduling, making decorations, promoting, involving students, gathering volunteers, working at, and packing up the book fair! We sincerely cannot thank them enough! Because of their efforts, hundreds of students and staff were able to get more books in their hands (and had a lot of fun doing it!)

Kirn Students “Pay it Forward”

Today every student in Hoover’s Preschool, Kindergarten and 1st Grade received a book and a goodie bag from Mrs. Cihacek’s 7th Grade Advisory Class.   Under the leadership of Mrs. Cihacek, the group was awarded the Project Jack grant provided by the Realtor Foundation of Iowa.  They chose to use the grant to “pay it forward” to benefit students at Hoover.   They teamed up to read to each of the 8 classes and distribute the free books and goodie bags.

Project Jack honors Jack Lindaman who passed away when he was 6 years old.  Project Jack honors his memory and loving spirit through the good deeds of children.

A group of ladies met recently in the Hoover library to participate in a Pillowcase Challenge. The get together was the brainchild of Hoover’s Mrs. Haffner who coordinated the event. Marianna cut pieces to make 120 pillowcases and brought them to Hoover in a rolling suitcase all ready for assembly!
