Hoover Branch of US Bank Opening Day!

Hoover is excited to again offer Student Banking under the guidance of Enrichment Specialist (TAG) Miss Feierstein and our friends at US Bank!

Today was opening day for the Hoover Branch of US Bank!   Students were greeted by this year’s tellers who answered questions, helped open accounts and assisted with deposits.  Student Tellers are required to apply, interview, and if selected, train for their position.  It is a valuable learning and leadership opportunity.  For their customers, they have the opportunity to learn how banking works and how saving a little money each week can add up!  Additionally, student savers can earn prizes when reaching account milestones.   Parent permission is needed to open an account and only parents can withdraw funds until their student reaches 5th Grade.  At the end of 5th Grade, a ceremony is held to acknowledge and celebrate their savings accomplishments and each participate receives a check for their balance.  Student banking will be every Friday this year at Hoover.

Hoover Spooktacular Truly Spectacular!

Families enjoyed the annual Hoover Literacy Spooktacular October 26.  The event brought approximately 250 students and their families to the halls of Hoover to enjoy spooky stories, bingo, crafts and treats!  Event Chairperson, Mrs. Kolln, estimated it to be one of the largest Spooktaculars to date!

Hoover Student Council Elected

It was a whirlwind week for these students!

They campaigned for Student Council, gave speeches, were elected, held their first meeting, and provided these snacks to EVERY classroom to enjoy on Friday, September 15! Congratulations for being chosen as leaders among your peers! And a BIG thank you to Mrs. Carlson and Mrs. Kolln for sponsoring and guiding this group. #hooverstudentcouncilrocks

Hoover Receives Grant from Pacific Life!

Principal Hettrick is shown here accepting a grant from Pacific Life that will be used to provide teacher training in the area of technology. The application was submitted by Michele Alvarado to her employer, Pacific Life. Ms Hettrick along with Dave Fringer and Devin Shoening from the District’s Technology Department corroborated to write the grant. Thanks, Pacific Life!!

The Hoover Branch of US Bank opened September 28 and will serve students every Wednesday morning this year! Mrs. Leffler oversees the program, along with US Bank employees, which includes interviewing and training Grade 5 student tellers. Students can open an account with permission from parents and make weekly deposits earning them prizes along with their growing bank account!  Through this program, students learn to become super savers as they hit their savings goals.

Superintendent Dr. Bruckner Visits 1st Grade

Sam Walter welcomed Dr. Bruckner to Hoover this week and explained our “Pawsitive” Way to Go’s before escorting her to his 1st Grade class led by his teacher, Mrs. Grove.

Every week Hoover students who are caught living our values of being SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL and CARING are given a “Pawsitive” WAY TO GO that they proudly march to the office and deposit in the Way to Go receptacle! On Fridays, several of these slips are drawn, the names announced and those students come to the Commons and receive a prize!

Mrs. Grove’s class were gracious hosts to Dr. Bruckner as she observed and participated in their day!

Hoover Student Council Gives Back!

Student Council Members recently selected two organizations to receive a donation from them.  Jessica Brickey accepted the donation on behalf of the Jennie Edmundson Hospital Foundation and Liz Andreoli accepted the gift on behalf of the Midlands Humane Society.  Hoover appreciates all that these organizations do for our community!
