All School Field Trip to Lauritzen Gardens

The entire school visited Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha, Nebraska Tuesday May 24.  The students were treated to beautiful walks through the Gardens where they searched for wildlife, viewed gorgeous flowers and learned about different nature aspects of the season.  Students were encouraged to pick up flower petals found on the garden floors and walkways but not to pick any of the flowers!  One student thought the flower petals felt like silk, soft and velvety.  Sounds like they had a great time!

Crescent PLTW Exhibits

On Friday April 29 Mrs. Pruitt’s kindergarten and 1st grade class presented their projects related to animal adaptations. Students were asked to answer questions from other students and visitors related to animal environments, weather, what grows in that region, what you would wear if you were to visit and what you might take with if traveling there. The project was a part of the Project Lead the Way curriculum.  Crescent Elementary was one of the first elementary schools to pilot and adopt the program in the country.

All of the upper classes visited and had questions to ask. Parents were also invited to see the displays set up in the school gym.

Some of the pictures are below – to see more visit Crescent Elementary’s Facebook page by clicking here.

Crescent Students Enjoy Omaha Symphony Presentation

The kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade classes attended a presentation by the Omaha Symphony of Mission Imagination – “The Musical Adventures of Melvin the Explorer”.  Students were able to help make choices guiding Melvin and the orchestra through various musical landscapes.  There was singing, learning and playing along!  Students were encouraged to bring handmade instruments to assist Melvin through the treacherous terrains and help him to solve musical riddles.  Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?

Mission Imagination is an interactive production where students are encouraged to participate with singing, playing handmade instruments, listening, with opportunities to conduct along with the Omaha Symphony.  The Omaha Symphony provided a wonderful packet for educators to prepare students for the performance, including directions on how to make homemade instruments.  A 2nd grade student really enjoyed the music which he recognized from other movies he had seen.  Another student really enjoyed the orchestra although he thought it was ‘too loud’.

All in all, it appears the students were entertained and also had a great learning experience!
