We’re about three weeks into summer, and many children may be looking for something to keep them busy.  The Council Bluffs Community School District encourages all children to stay active and inspired during the summer…and to spend some time each day reading or learning something new.  Here are a few questions to get you started…

Has your child found the perfect summer book?  The Council Bluffs Library and other literacy-focused organizations provide helpful summer book lists for children:

The Council Bluffs Public Library also offers special events and activities for children and teens throughout the summer.  Click here to see the Upcoming Events Calendar for the library.

Is there a special interest or favorite hobby that might inspire your child this summer?  He or she can start with a book and then participate in activities that let the imagination soar!  Whether interested in dinosaurs, bugs, birds, planes, music, sports, superheroes, inventors, art, the night sky, the ocean, or something else, check out the following website www.startwithabook.org brought to you by ReadingRockets.org. Simply encourage your child to pick one of the many themes to explore this summer.

We invite you to take a few moments to get more ideas from this insightful Leadership Note blog “Stopping the Summer Slide” Learning by Kathleen Rapp, Iowa West Foundation Vice President of Grants & Initiatives. Click Here
