Space Available Transportation

Middle and High School Students Only

Is a Student allowed to ride the bus to and from school if he or she lives within the 2 or 3-mile limit?

Middle school students must live at least 1.25 miles, and high school students must live at least 2 miles from their area school to be eligible for Space Available Seating on an existing bus route.  Bus drivers will monitor a list of students who have been assigned Space Available Seating.

Will My Child Be Able to Ride All Year?

In most cases, yes.  Seats may be no longer available if students move into the area (2 miles or more for middle school and 3 miles or more for high school) of the stop.  Parents/Guardians will be notified 1 week before

their child is removed from the bus route.  A portion of fees previously paid, for that time, will be refunded to you.

Students and siblings, residing at the same address, who rode in an assigned Space Available seat at the end of the 2014 – 2015 school year, and will attend the same building during the 2015 – 2016 school year, can ride as Space Available the first day of school on August 31, 2015.

New students to Kirn:  Parents may request a “space available” seat by contacting the Kirn office.  We will have seating availability information from First Student during the week of September 14th.  We will contact you regarding your request.

To Request a Space Available Seat

Parents/Guardians should contact the office of the school building their students attends to make a request.
