Higgins Family Honored With Fight for Iowa Award

Ryan and Kara Higgins recently received the Fight for Iowa award at the Iowa-Wyoming football game on September 2, for their willingness to help others across the globe. Upon adopting two children from Rwanda the Higgins family was struck by the amount of orphans living in poor conditions.

Ryan, a teacher at Abraham Lincoln High School, and his family helped develop a sponsorship program, which has provided support for hundreds of children in Rwanda.

The Fight for Iowa award is awarded to individuals who best embody the values, determination, and integrity that Iowa stands for. Whether it is an individual who has made a significant impact in their community or contributed to a significant accomplishment, the University of Iowa is looking for people who consistently fight to represent themselves, their families, and their state.
