Baker Receives National Attention

Thomas Jefferson Junior Cameron Baker scored five rushing touchdowns against Sioux City West last Friday. Perhaps the most intriguing moment of the game came in the second quarter when Baker broke seven tackles and scampered 80 yards to the end zone, receiving national attention from media outlets around the country.

His mother, Holy Baker, shared the video of her sons unbelievable run on Twitter. Outlets such as USA Today, Bleacher Report, MaxPreps, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, and SportsCenter have shared the highlight via social media. The video on Bleacher Report’s Facebook page has more than 403,000 views and 14,000 impressions as of Wednesday morning.

Thomas Jefferson defeated Sioux City West by a final score of 56-21. In the game, Baker tallied 336 yards on the ground which also included a 96 yard touchdown run in the second half. Thomas Jefferson as a team rushed for a total of 610 yards which included 400 yards in the first half.

Baker currently leads Iowa Class 4A with 862 rushing yards and is tied for second with nine touchdowns.

Thomas Jefferson (3-1) will be back on the field this Friday to take on Des Moines North (0-4) at Gale Wickersham Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
