Did You Know?

I am grateful for the insights shared during my first 100 days and look forward to making progress on six goals.

Students gathered insight into industry sectors at career forum

Eighth grade students from Council Bluffs had the opportunity to explore potential career opportunities at a career forum on Tuesday, Oct 11. The event, held at Iowa Western Community College, was sponsored by the Council Bluffs Community School District, Iowa Western Community College and Workforce Alignment Project.  Career Forum 10.11.16 (2)

More than 20 speakers from local businesses shared their insight into 12 industry sectors with the nearly 90 people, both students and their parents, in attendance. The keynote speaker for the event was Adam Haeder, a hardware operations manager at the Google data center in Council Bluffs.

“The goal of the event is to provide an introduction to career information that will start a conversation between parents and students,” said Mary Warren, workforce consultant and co-coordinator of the annual career forum. “We hope that the attendees will learn about the variety of career options available, and the education and training needed to embark on these career paths. Eighth grade is a good time to begin considering career interests as the students will soon be choosing high school classes.”

As an additional highlight to the event, a drawing was held for two Chromebooks, donated by the Google data center in Council Bluffs.
