“Step It Up Iowa” event promoted awareness, wellness

Nearly 140 Council Bluffs Community School District staff, family and community members participated in the statewide “Step It Up Iowa” event on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Step It Up 16

The annual event is organized by Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative, whose goal is “to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation.” Each year, hundreds of 30-minute walk events take place across the state on one selected day. According the to Iowa Healthiest State Initiative website, organized, public walks took place in all 99 Iowa counties, totaling more than 900 walks throughout the state on October 5.

The Council Bluffs Community School District’s “Step It Up Iowa” walk took place at the newly-renovated Gale Wickersham Athletic Complex. Each participant received a free T-shirt and pedometer. A grand prize drawing also awarded five participants with wellness prizes, including a Fitbit, MIRA insulated water bottle, digital food scale, NutriBullet and Fitbit Smart Scale. Step It Up 26

The CB Schools event was coordinated by the District’s Human Resources team as part of the ongoing wellness program events. “We wanted to host a fun event to get people active and raise awareness about both the District wellness program and the need to exercise, even if it is non-strenuous and just for brief periods each day,” said Greg Anderson, benefits specialist for the District.
